Nella K. Rogers was born in Belgium, raised in Canada, and has lived in Victoria BC since 1979.

"I think I was born with an interest in animals, says Nella, reflecting about her childhood on a farm near Toronto, Ontario. "I spent a lot of time staring up trees at birds' nests and porcupines, or standing in the creek studying the trout nibbling my toes and the crayfish scuttling about the rocks."

She began drawing as a toddler but it wasn't until the late 1980's that she began to take herself seriously as an artist. About wildlife and art Nella says, "I've always had a love for critters in general. I have very early memories of trying to draw both chickens and polar bears (not together) before I was old enough to walk with any confidence. Animal images play a large part in my work."

Nella works mainly in colored pencil, graphite pencil, watercolor, gouache, and pen & ink, often mixed together in various combinations.
