Nella K. Rogers
was born in Belgium, raised in Canada, and has lived in Victoria BC since
1979.
"I think I was born with an interest in animals, says Nella, reflecting about her childhood on a farm near Toronto, Ontario. "I spent a lot of time staring up trees at birds' nests and porcupines, or standing in the creek studying the trout nibbling my toes and the crayfish scuttling about the rocks." |
She began drawing as a toddler but it wasn't until the late 1980's that she began to take herself seriously as an artist. About wildlife and art Nella says, "I've always had a love for critters in general. I have very early memories of trying to draw both chickens and polar bears (not together) before I was old enough to walk with any confidence. Animal images play a large part in my work."
Nella works mainly in colored pencil,graphite pencil, watercolor, gouache,and pen & ink,often mixed together in various combinations.
